Summer Golf 2024
The Crofton Country Club in Crofton, MD, was the site of this year’s 7th Annual American Legion Post 276 Golf Invitation held on Mon, 15 July, where 60 devoted golfers braved the heat and humidity for a day on the links.
15 teams competed this year, and the competition was tight at the top as 7 teams finished within 2 strokes of the leaderboard. Two teams finished at the top at 13 under par, and an approved PGA tie-breaking method was used to decide 1st and 2nd place. Coming in at 1st place was the team of Rob DeFebbo, Jeremy Allen, Greg Rawlings and Henry Reynolds. The 2nd place team comprised Joe Rudiger, Jeff Cooper, Ken Krieger Sr, and Ken Krieger Jr. - Congrats, gentlemen! There was also a 2-way tie to decide 3rd place. That team came in at 12 under par, just 1 stroke off the leaderboard. The same tie-breaking method was used to determine the 3rd place award; well done to all the competitors! Like the last couple of years, all teams finished at par or under! Quite the accomplishment in all that heat.
Following the golf round, lunch and post-game prizes/awards were presented. It was mentioned that area merchants were again very generous this year, donating three dozen prizes valued at over $2800.
Mike Krieger led the effort in pulling off this annual golf event, with wife Peggy assisting, putting together excellent gift bags, and organizing/arranging the prizes. Krieger’s niece, Maggie Krieger, volunteered to assist in the registration check-in during the morning, take pictures during the event, and set up the post-lunch awards table. Thank you, ladies!
During the past few months, Krieger visited local businesses to solicit donations and sponsorships that offset some costs and added additional prizes. Having just received a final invoice from the club, I anticipate we will be clearing over $1400 that will be donated to First Tee, an organization that impacts the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf – https://thefirsttee.org/about/
